Hidden And Unheard at OWS

Before I stop at Zucotti park I always walk on Wall street to remember that slaves built that wall on this famous Wall street to keep the Lenape Indians.

As many inquisitive, outraged, disgusted souls traverse across Zucotti Park it's important to remember that it's sacred ground.  No matter how much the residents may scream about the "noise" of the war drums and simply object to the masses revolting against the tyranny of unchecked corporate greed, the. voices of the first oppressed people, the Lenape Indians go unheard.  Their graves go unmarked. On that spot may have been a burial ground but we will never know it.

I have been coming to OWS since September 19th.  Much has changed since that first day I sat on the steps and spoke with protesters who have reached their limit with the direction our government and thus society has taken.  From the first moments there I always honored the ancestors and spoke up for the missing Lenape Indians who don't have their names etched anywhere on the streets of that old trail they established which we now call Broadway on this isle once known as "Manahatta", land of many hills which were flattened to expand this city by leaps and bounds.

As all eyes are on the famous Wall Street the mission to put a visual image of the actual building of that wall is what is missing. Slaves built this wall to keep the Lenape out. It's time to make Wall street accountable for the current and past tyranny.

I'll post more tomorrow folks.  In the meantime, when picturing that famous street, contemplate what's beneath.

  23. I am listening to you on livestream as I am writing this note. you are the future. You are everything this movement is about. The brilliant, brilliant young minds willing to take on corporate greed and a corrupt government. Many people need to hear your words and I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful future for you as well as all of your peers. Thank you.

  24. Holy shit, do you have any idea that your fellow "99%"ers work for these corporations? You do not have the answers.

  25. Please ignore the first comment - you were brilliant on the livestream - thank you for ALL you brought forth - thank you for bringing to consciousness all that needs to be said - and deeply understood - about what is happening in this nation. I particularly appreciate that your first post on this blog harkens back to the very first take over and displacement that occurred on this island (and remarkably I am writing this as you are very eloquently speaking about the current displacement of all but the most wealthy from this very same island as a result of gentrification) and that took place throughout the rest of our nation as we expanded and grew - these are the kind of injustices that we need to be rectifying as we move forward. We need to create a new paradigm where these kinds of injustices will never take place again on this planet.

But for now - as a very simple first step - we DO have the POWER OF THE POCKET BOOK - and we DO need to STOP blindly giving corporations our money - without holding them accountable for their actions. You speak a great truth - Keep speaking that truth!!! I hope that everyone will feel empowered by this fact and begin taking that step - it may be small - but many small step will have a big effect.

    Thank you!!!

You mentioned that there was a website about how to create home-made solar panels but you didn't know the name of the website. If you have it saved, I would be very interested in it and I will be researching this topic myself.

  48. I just heard Naomi Wolf speak on MSNBC. She is urging OWS leaders to begin to speak out on MSM. Because they are a leadership absent movement, they are reluctant. Go to your GA...ask them if you can speak..not as a leader, but an articulate spokesperson. Contact Naomi (Nation Mag) she could possible help, We need your voice....we need your help...we need to begin to turn this nation around....we need economic justice

  49. OWS now needs spoke persons (not leaders)to speak out as they have to go to a next stage after the tents have been removed. They need articulate, bright, historically knowledgeable, analytically savvy spokespeople. You are all of these Deborah..please please use wisely the tools you have. We need you to take another step up and carry the rest of us with your message to achieve economic justice....Please Deborah?

  51. Has anyone gotten those words from the livestream into a youtube video? Who's working on that? It needs to happen NOW. Those words need to be played over Democracy now and NPR and Fox news, on megaphones in every neighborhood, whispered in the back alleys, shouted from the rooftops.... for real!
